Fuzion Contemporary Dance Company began its educational activities in May 2005. Weekly class sessions and dance rehearsals provide instruction by qualified dance educators. These classes and rehearsals are designed to teach attention to detail through repetition of skill and technique, time management and provide the learning of many varied dance styles, to include ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary ballet, modern, hip hop, and tap. Fuzion Contemporary Dance Company students participate in 4 - 12.5 hours of classroom instruction and rehearse 5 - 10 hours per week. Seventy percent (70%) of Fuzion Contemporary Dance Company's purpose is met through this educational setting. FCDC maintains a low teacher-to-student ratio allowing for the additional achievement of not only high artistic standards, but also the development of self-control, responsibility, citizenship, creative expression and the ability to work with others. Fuzion Contemporary Dance Company also contracts with professional choreographers to provide students exposure to the creative process of dance.
Performances at Fuzion Contemporary Dance Company concerts and community events showcase the skills of company members and introduce the community to Fuzion's mission and goals. FCDC performances encompass an additional thirty percent (30%) of the purpose, vision and mission. The intent of these performances is to provide a forum for students to enhance and fine-tune their dance skills and technique, and to develop an appreciation for the performing arts. Fuzion Contemporary Dance Company uses these event performances to reach the community, expanding the opportunity to raise community awareness of the dance arts.
FCDC believes that giving back and paying forward are important
aspects of living in a community.
Fuzion has supported local non-profit organizations by performing at benefits such as Dancers Against Cancer and Upstage Arts. FCDC donates tickets to their bi-annual shows to Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Bay Area Turning Point. Company members serve as positive role models by supporting the "Drug Free Program", performing at local elementary schools, and community events including, The Oak Tree Festival, Ballunar Festival, and Houston's Children's Fest. They celebrated League City's "50th Gala" and the Barnevelder's "Dance Gathering" with outstanding performances. FCDC supports the "Community in School" Program each year with canned food drives and they donate a portion of every ticket to their concerts to the Bay Area Turning Point. Fuzion also provides scholarships to students who are at risk by offering dance classes and performance opportunities. FCDC believes that helping children gain exposure and access to these activities will go a long way in affecting positive change in their lives.
